$90.5 Million Allocated for Transportation Projects in Mendocino County

January 4, 2024 - In good news for Mendocino County, the California Transportation Commission allocated over $90 million locally as part of a billion-dollar package of climate-resiliency infrastructure improvements at its December meeting. Caltrans announced the investments, which include the following projects. View or download the press release:

For Mendocino County, in Caltrans District 1:

  • $51.4 million including more than $45.5 million in federal IIJA funding and $630,000 in SB1 funding in support of allocations toward roadway, guardrail and sign improvements on Route 162 from U.S. 101 to east of Poonkinney Road near Covelo in Mendocino County.
  • $13.4 million including more than $11.8 million in federal IIJA funding and $272,000 in SB1 funding in support of allocations toward roadway improvements on U.S. 101 near Willits from north of the Upp Creek Bridge to north of Ryan Creek Road in Mendocino County.
  • $1.7 million in SB1 funding in support of allocations toward fish-passage improvements along Route 1 near Anchor Bay at Sunset Drive and near Fort Bragg at Tregoning Drive in Mendocino County.
  • $12 million from LTCAP for Mendocino County, Mendocino Brooktrails Second Access, Community Resilience, Emergency Evacuation. 
  • $12 million from LTCAP for Mendocino County, Medocino Redmeyer Road Extension, Community Resilience/Emergency Evacuation. 

The $24 million in grants for Mendocino County emergency evacuation routes is funded by the State's Local Transportation Climate Adaptation Program (LTCAP).

Other funding comes from the Biden Administration's bipartisan infrastructure law, known as the Investment in Infrastructure & Jobs Act (IIJA), as well as the State of California's own transportation funding programs through Senate Bill 1 and General Fund sources.
