In December 2011, MCOG amended into its annual transportation planning program "Gualala Downtown Plan Implementation," continuing the work described below. Press Release: A public meeting has been set to receive public input on a proposed refinement to the Streetscape Plan component of the Gualala Downtown Design Plan. It will be held at the Gualala Community Center, 47950 Center Street, Gualala, on Saturday, March 10 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. ... The second phase of this project, in MCOG's Fiscal Year 2007/08 and 2008/09 Planning Work Programs, is complete. With community participation, a Downtown Design Plan was produced, including streetscape, parking and circulation elements. The final plan was accepted by MCOG's Board of Directors in a public hearing on March 2, 2009. It was recognized that some issues remained to be resolved, notably parking.

The work was funded by MCOG and Caltrans through two Community Based Transportation Planning grants. The first phase of the project was completed in MCOG's Fiscal Year 2005/06 and 2006/07 Planning Work Programs. A Community Action Plan was produced as a result.

Both plans were designed to be consistent with other local plans and community input. Workshops were conducted in 2006 and 2008, and additional public meetings were held thoughout the process. RRM Design Group worked closely with stakeholders to develop the plans.
