The 4th Annual Walk
& Roll Festival returns again, Monday, May 19 through Saturday,
May 24, in conjunction with California Bike Commute Week and Clean
Air Month. A week of fun events are being planned "to
celebrate and promote walking, bicycling, and other diverse transportation
choices for a healthier Ukiah Valley." All events
are free and meet at various locations in and around Ukiah.
Events
planned for this year include a family fun ride, free breakfasts
for carpoolers, cyclists and walking commuters; a community leaders
mileage competition, an errand race between cyclists and motorists,
a wheelchair errand race, group walks, and affordable helmets
for sale. In addition to walking and bicycling, diverse
transportation choices include carpooling, riding transit,
skating, and telecommutingfor a more active, healthful lifestyle
and sustainable environment.
The
festival is organized by the Ukiah Valley Walk & Roll Coalition.
Sponsors include Ukiah Community Center, Mendocino Council of
Governments, Mendocino County Air Quality Management District,
North Coast Striders, Showers Pass, Inc., and other generous contributors.
